Acedemic Essay Writing (Essay Sample) Content: DAVID WALKER'S APPEALNameCourseDateRight from early existence of humans slavery has been experienced in one form or another but is something that nobody thought as being wrong. It was considered right because no one came out to proclaim it to be illegal. This is contrary to the bible which states that God wishes everyone to be the same. In defending slavery before the civil war by the whites southerner, according to them black people were better off as slaves because if they were freed they could go back to their barbaric lifestyle. Therefore they needed to be supervised. As stated in the Dew Bow review magazine using the bible as defense for slavery which according to the writer lack sense therefore needed to be argued. According to David Walker the white southerners argued that the bible was the standards used to measure morality and religion yet what the bible says did not permit misusing one from childhood as slaves .This is a viewed most people thing is moral ly unacceptable. Therefore we will be analyzing whether the bible has teachings on slavery or not if so what does the bible say concerning slavery. People who are anti slavery are of the opinion that the bible simply provides guidelines that are assumed to have given the basis to argue that slavery is morally wrong. In one of the bible teachings during Abraham times the people were treated even worse than slaves in the present times. Abraham who was Gods chosen servant treated his servants like properties to be disposed off when he wished. In the book of Genesis Abrahams servants were always countered as part of Abrahams properties. For example in Genesis 14 referred to Abraham as possessing sheep, oxen, camel, men and maid servants. In the same bible one of Pauls letters to Philemon about Onesmus indicated that he had all the rights to decide on behalf of Onesmus . If this was not slavery then Paul could have said that he had no rights to decide when it comes to action to be take n against Onemsus who run away .This could have been because Philemons family mistreated him as this happens to many slaves. During those days any slave that run away was not shown any mercy instead Paul returned him back. This according to the white southerners is not the best way to deal with slaves. In his speech he questioned what importance was 4th July for the American slaves who were not free. He instead condemned the country to be hypocritical because as much as their believed in liberty it was not being reflected in their actions. This is the same opinion shared by David Walker. Both of them emphasized that liberty could only be realized by abolishing slavery. In his speech Fredrick Douglas questioned his role in upholding the countrys independence, he stated that his task would be to have a heart that could acknowledge the benefits of freedom where the chains of slavery will be removed from the limbs of the slaves. But unfortunately that was not the case in America. In his speech that day he emphasized that the benefits that comes with independence is not enjoyed by everyone including him. He even referred to independence as sunlight that came along with healing and life to some people but the same sunlight also came along with death to him. Instead the fourth of July when other rejoiced he mourned. He referred to the whole celebration as a mockery and irony of the highest order. In his speech Fredrick Douglass assured other people who were mourning like him that he could hear them and people who chains of yesterday are made worse by the independence celebrations which mocked them. Therefore forgetting about such people would make him to be accused ev en before God and the world at large. He accused America to have committed wrongs in the past and was still committing the same mistake in the present. According to him the countr...
